The time gone past

June 19th, 2006

I know I woe and I owe quite a few people some updates.

The past few weeks have been a blast.

Been to a remote island off the east coast of Malaysia learning diving with some new found friends and hanging out with a group of crazy people

Church camp was great. Met so many people (and read and reading their blogs and praying for them).

Attended a conference in Hong Kong and met some good friends (you know who you are!).

Went with mum to her church for a Parent’s Day celebration. The very first time (in a long long time, i suppose) that my grandma heard the gospel (which needs far more elaboration if she’s ever to make sense out of it).

Got rejected for my Masters application (honest truth, i probably wasn’t in the right frame of mind when i applied). Doesn’t matter.

Many wonderful conversations. Many opportunities to share Christ. Just totally amazed by God.

This is part 1 of JayWalk’s 5 weird things abt yourself. (Its actually long overdue, so my humble apologies to the winner of the SingaporeBlog Winner of the month February 2006.) RESPECT. What I would say is Jaywalk is one of the most underrated bloggers coming from Singapore. I mean, he’s probably the most femes blogger (for his age, no less!). But I shall dedicate another entry to him for that (suaning season in full swing ha ha).

See if the title tells you anything. No, I’m not obsessed over my pay and whether my pay is over or under where it ought to be. Co-editor will tell you otherwise but just don’t believe her.

One of the strange things I have to do each week is to read RECRUIT. I know, it might not sound like a lot to you but this is where I do a lot of my research. Well, if you want to further the mosaic theory, this is the very place. Most firms don’t exactly reveal too much about themselves but through that very advertisement, they sure tell you much more than what they should. Somethings, sometimes, hilariously.

The strange thing of course is 90% of jobs are typically filled up not by newspaper advertisements. If this being the case, then I wonder why firms even bother taking out such ads (that also explains why SPH can be such a steal. look at their model!!). A myriad of reasons why firms continue to do so but this shall not be our focus tonight.

Why?

Job descriptions fascinate me. I like to know what people do for a living. Hey, if its something that you do for at least 8 hours a day, surely there must be some highlights. Tell me its boring, yes I know. But work is really something to think about. So the next time I see you, don’t be surprised if I ask pertinent questions in this area. This also helps me when I help people to structure their resumes (oh, now you know another thing that I do, pro bono of course). My own resume is another thing altogether. ah hem.

After trying to piece together what I wrote above, it might not seem so strange after all (hey, you might even share the same hobby as me!). Over the years, sometimes I cut out and collect some of these ads. I might share some with you over the next few weeks if I can find them.

So coming back to the title of the post, here’s something for you oh dear faithful readers if you’ve not fallen asleep yet.

Tiger Beer to be sold in US

This is quite hilarious. The first thing that hit me was - no Singapore newspapers have yet to report this??? (Do correct me if I’m wrong. Googled it, nothing came out) I mean, the respectable North Korea Times is reporting this leh..

Secondly, you got to read the news to have a great laugh.

Check this out - http://finanzen.net/news/news_detail.asp?NewsNr=380340

“Tiger Beer is recognized as one of Asia’s finest beer exports,”

“Tiger Beer is a high-quality, premium brand that is a perfect complement to our growing portfolio of import beers.”

“While beer drinkers in Asia have been enjoying Tiger for many decades, drinkers in America are only beginning to discover the unique taste of Asia in Tiger in trendy bars and Asian fusion-style restaurants in cities such as New York, San Francisco and Miami,”

…expand Tiger Beer’s push into high-end bars and clubs across the country.

Comments welcomed. I’ll try to plug more when I’m saner.

Getting married

March 9th, 2006

Had a fun time yesterday with the 4 friends we met for dinner. Two of them are getting married! Yay! Best thing is one couple will be having their wedding in Kaohsiung and the other guy is going to have his in Vienna.

Tell us the dates, and we’ll fly over to celebrate. Come to think of it, i’ve never attended a wedding other than in Malaysia and Singapore. Taiwan and Austria would be fun since i’ve not been to these countries before.

Back from Tokyo

March 6th, 2006

A lot of things to update but it was good keeping a semi-journal during the trip. It does help a lot to record down things which i might not remember later.

Skin around fingers now peeling like onions. Argh! Pain!

Anyway, back to reality. Time for work. Oops, lunch i mean.

Met new friends.

Went to new places.

Enjoyed new experiences.

Savoured God’s creations.

Amazing!
